The streets and backroads of Oku-Yugawara, “the town colored by the four seasons,” are known for the stunning beauty of picturesque autumn foliage. During the fall period you can participate in an elegant tea ceremony. Soothe your body and soul by relaxing with a warm cup of matcha green tea while admiring the beauty of the momiji (maple) leaves, from within the serenity of a tea house designed by a noted architect.

The autumn foliage season in Yugawara is generally from mid-November through early December.

Charge  500 JPY per person (admission fee and price of matcha green tea included)
Content  Admire the beauty of the season over a warm cup of matcha green tea, in the serenity of a reposeful tea house designed by a famous architect.
If you like, you can observe the formalized manners of a Japanese tea ceremony (reservations not required).
※You might have to wait during times of congestion.
Access  Take the bus for Oku-Yugawara/Fudodaki from Yugawara Station, and get off Oku-Yugawara Bus Stop, the last stop (about a 20-minute ride). Walk uphill for 10 minutes. The tea house is in front of the entrance to Yugawara Parkway (784-29 Miyakami, Oku-Yugawara).

Course  The Tenshozan Hiking Course & the Ikemine Hiking Course
(Walking distance: about 8km)
※Scheduled to disband in Manyo Park around 2:30 p.m.
 Participation cost  1,000 JPY per person (participation fee, insurance premium and bus fare included)
Please pay at the reception desk on the day of the hike.

How to apply  After clearly writing down the name, address, age, gender, and phone number of all the prospective participants on a pre-paid postcard, please send it to the following address:

 Application Deadline  Applications must arrive no later than Thursday, November 19th. (For 2016 hiking event)
Clothes & belongings  Wear clothes that are easy to move in, a cap or hat, and sports shoes.  Please bring a bento (boxed lunch), water bottle, rainwear, mat or something to sit on, towel, health insurance card, and anything else you may need.

If you take a bus  Take the bus for Oku-Yugawara/Fudodaki from Yugawara Station, and get off at Oku-Yugawara Iriguchi Bus Stop or Oku-Yugawara Bus Stop, the last stop (about a 20-minute ride).
 If you take a taxi  Yugawara Station→Oku-Yugawara (about a 15-minute ride)
To Momiji no Sato  Take the bus for Oku-Yugawara/Fudodaki from Yugawara Station, and get off at Oku-Yugawara Iriguchi Bus Stop (the next to last stop, about a 20-minute ride). It is about a 40-minute walk to Ikemine Bridge.
(Momiji no Sato is located along the Ikemine Hiking Course. The course itself is not a tough course. You cannot get to Momiji no Sato by car.)※If the Ikemine Hiking Course is too difficult, we recommend getting off the bus at the last stop, Oku-Yugawara, and walking up the gently paved slope along the road in the direction of the tea house. This route, too, will provide a very beautiful view with plenty of momiji leaves.
To the tea house  Take the bus for Oku-Yugawara/Fudodaki from Yugawara Station, and get off at Oku-Yugawara Bus Stop, the last stop (about a 20-minute ride). Walk up the gently paved slope along the road for about 15 minutes. You’ll find the tea house on the left side of the road.
To the stalls where souvenirs are sold  Take the bus for Oku-Yugawara/Fudodaki from Yugawara Station, and get off at Oku-Yugawara Iriguchi Bus Stop, the next to last stop (about a 20-minute ride). Ikemine Bridge, the site of the stalls, is close to the bus stop.
