Introduction

From mid-February to early March, the red and white blossoms of about 4,000 ume (Japanese plum) trees bloom spectacularly, like a “carpet of ume” all over the hills of Makuyama Park, an area of nine hectares. The whole park becomes enveloped in their delicate fragrance. Seasonal blooms are reflected in the park’s streams and ponds along the walking trails, allowing one to savor the season in a calming, relaxed environment. Why not forget your worries and treat yourself to a carefree afternoon spent among nature’s floral displays, and the wildlife in the brooks and skies?
