On February 26, 1936, an unprecedented abortive coup attempt called “the February 26 Incident,” occurred in Japan. During this incident, the only “scene” outside of Tokyo was “Kofuso” in Yugawara. In “Kofuso,” the former annex to the long established inn Ito ya, materials related to the incident such as articles left by the people concerned, photos, newspapers and others, are on display, and volunteer guides show tourists around the facility.
