A joint session of calm and lively moving light. Fireworks and bamboo lanterns color a long autumn night.

Yugawara Onsen is closely connected with Manyoshu.
Many waka poems, under the themes of “onsen” and “bamboo,” can be found in Manyoshu, which was written about 1,300 ago.
Many waka and haiku poets visited Yugawara, fell in love with it and wrote poems about its nature. That soft atmosphere is still alive, even now, just like long ago.
The Light Festival is a highly romantic event, with images of murmuring streams, moonlight falling on them, just as the poets must have seen 1,300 years ago.
Looking at the light of the bamboo lanterns, away from the everyday hustle and bustle, you may experience a state of peace…as if the poets of those days, rich in sensitivity, have inspired you.
